Introduction
Napkin AI, Inc. provides Napkin, an AI note taker for store staff. This policy describes how we handle personal information when you use our website at https://trynapkin.com/, when you use the Napkin app, and when you visit a store that uses Napkin.
When we provide the service to a business, we process in-store audio on that business's behalf.
Information we collect
- Account information from app users.
- Website usage.
- In-store counter audio captured by Napkin beacons (edge devices), and the transcripts and notes made from that audio.
How we use it
We use this information to provide and improve the service, to help store staff serve customers, and to improve products. We also use it for security.
How we share it
We share personal information with these kinds of service providers:
- Cloud hosting.
- Speech-to-text transcription and AI providers that process audio and transcripts to produce transcripts, reports and answers.
- Email delivery for reports sent to store staff, which may include short excerpts.
We share personal information when the law requires it.
We may share personal information in a business transfer, such as a merger or a sale of assets.
We share in-store audio, transcripts, and notes with the business that uses Napkin at that store.
Sale of personal information
We do not sell personal information.
How long we keep it
Raw audio is automatically deleted within 7 days.
Clips with no speech are deleted sooner.
How long transcripts are kept: to be confirmed.
What we don't do
Napkin's policy is that we don't use this audio to discipline staff. That is a policy intent, not a technical guarantee.
There is no voice identification. Napkin does not use voiceprints or identify who is speaking by voice.
Napkin does not identify shoppers.
Your choices
Prefer not? Just ask a staff member to pause it.
Your privacy rights
You can ask to know, delete, or correct personal information about you. You can opt out of sale or sharing. We will not discriminate against you for making a request.
If you live in California, these rights include the rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA).

Deletion of a specific conversation may require the store, location and approximate time of the visit.

Security
We use reasonable safeguards designed to protect personal information.
Children
Napkin is not directed to children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we change the date at the top of this page.
